Job Summary/Basic Function

The Lead Instructor of a Concordia Language Villages Language Training Center (LTC) program is responsible to provide an overall framework and guidelines for all LTC courses offered during the 2017/18 academic year, by working collaboratively with the LTC director and LTC lead instructors/program coordinators in the development of these frameworks and guidelines in support of . the program development and implementation of a language-specific iso-immersion programs offered by the Villages. This includes planning and implementation of a 3-4 day lead instructor orientation in October. The overall duties of this position include:

Curriculum framework development
1. Establish templates/samples for
a. Instructors to document course outlines, including goals, materials used, and assessment tools/practices.
b. The Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator to document the overall course content, content, materials used, and assessment tools/practices.
c. Assessing growth of cultural competencies by participants as a result of the iso-immersion experience

Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator orientation
2. Work with LTC director to schedule and implement a 3-day orientation session for all 2017/18 LTC lead instructors with focus on
a. Getting everyone on board with the materials established under #1 above
b. Idea exchanges and Sharing best practices based on 2016/17 pilot year
c. Agreeing to and establishing baseline expectations and documentation of LTC experiences for the future
d. Self-reflection practices during the course
e. Developing post-iso-immersion/end-of-course feedback for each learner regarding their progress and areas for future growth/improvement

LTC Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator manual
3. In collaboration with LTC director, create a LTC lead instructor/program coordinator manual with the following content
a. Overall outline of the Concordia LTC model
b. Background information on LTC partner(s)
c. Pre-arrival communications with participants
d. Copy of the student needs assessment form
e. Sample schedules
f. A rough/ideal timeline for preparing for each LTC iso-immersion course
g. Key contacts within CLV
h. Examples of curricular framework and course outlines (see #1 above)
i. Expectations for and examples of approaches to assess growth in cultural competencies and to document such growth
j. Copy of the participant survey form
k. Other…

Minimum Qualifications

• A baseline understanding of the Concordia LTC model
Ability to work collaboratively and to integrate ideas of others in the final product
• Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
• Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning in an immersion setting for adults
• Strong organizational and management skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• B.A. degree required, with advanced degree preferred
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the program leader position (see job description)
• Availability for the designated dates
• Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; assume responsibility and costs for any visa requirements
• Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree, preferred
• Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales like the ILR and the OPI
● Previous leadership position at Concordia Language Villages or in a comparable language immersion environment
