Job Summary/Basic Function

One tenure-track appointment in mathematics education at the assistant professor level in our vibrant, student-centered Department of Mathematics—to begin January, 2018. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (three per term) at all levels, including covering the mathematics methods course in education and the fundamental concepts of modern mathematics course for elementary education majors. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to professional service that supports Concordia’s double major in mathematics and education. Participation, especially involving undergraduates, in scholarly research related to mathematics or the teaching and learning of mathematics, is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in mathematics or mathematics education (or ABD with a clear completion timeline) is required, as well as experience teaching mathematics at the secondary level.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of teaching excellence is essential, as is a passion for and understanding of a liberal arts undergraduate mathematics program. The successful candidate must demonstrate sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college of the Lutheran (ELCA) church. The College is interested in building a faculty whose research, pedagogy, and experience can contribute to its ambitious diversity goals.
