Job Summary/Basic Function

PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide personal safety to students, staff, faculty and visitors of Concordia College while protecting property and enforcing College policies.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the protection of personal safety and property, the investigation and enforcement of campus policies, security of campus buildings, security/ crowd control at various events and reporting maintenance problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Protection of the personal safety of all people on the campus and the security of campus facilities.

- Assists students, staff, faculty and visitors, as needed, by responding promptly to emergency and routine calls for service (by phone, relaying information to dispatchers or personal contact)
- Provides escorts, Safe Walk, upon request
- Locks and unlocks campus buildings as needed
- Varied foot and vehicle patrol of the campus to detect suspicious people, vehicles or incidents and then taking appropriate action
- Checks campus lighting and reports problems
- Checks machinery, heating devices, pumps, etc. and reports problems
- Knows the location of main water shut offs, sprinkler valves and what part of building they protect, main electrical disconnect panels, etc.
- Transfers money from departments and events to the Business Office
- Composes and types reports of shifts and incidents

2. Enforces College rules, regulations and policies

- Assists other college officials in enforcing policies as requested

3. Investigates Violations

- If the incident is of a serious nature, the officer will notify the supervisor and/or the Police Dept. depending on the circumstances. The officer will do what is necessary to ensure the safety of any people involved and to secure the area
- If the incident is of a routine nature that the officer is able to handle, the officer will investigate the incident and complete a report

4. Provides Crowd Control

- Provides security at campus events that are offered by Concordia College or by others on the campus
- Enforces college regulations at such events
- Performs other duties at such functions as assigned by the Supervisor

5. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned

- Other duties that are not inconsistent with this Job Description or college policies may be assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong oral and written (English)communication skills
- Basic computer skills for typing, email, etc.
- Valid drivers license
- Insurable driving record
- Successful completion of full MN BCA and FBI background investigation

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with law enforcement or security training
